Szerencsére hétvégén nem a tanteremben, hanem kirándulások során tanulhattunk az ír kultúráról, természetről. Csodaszép helyeken jártunk, sok újdonságot hallotunk.
Fortunately, the weekend was spent outside the classroom. We went on trips to beautiful places where we heard a lot about Irish culture.
Trim vára -- a legnagyobb és legjobb állapotban megmaradt normann vár a XII. századból. (Fontos történelmi tény, hogy Írország semleges volt a II. Világháborúban, ezért a szigetet elkerülte a bombázás.)
Trim Castle -- the biggest and most well-preserved Norman castle from the 12th century. (Important historical fact: Ireland was neutral in WWII, so no bombing took place on the island.)
A "Guinness-tó" a Wicklow hegyekben arról kapta a becenevét, hogy a hegyeket vastagon beborító tőzegen keresztül szivárgó, majd a tóba beáramló víz olyan sötétté válik, mintha a híres sötét sör lenne. A Vikingek c. sorozat néhány epizódját is itt forgatták.
"Guiness" Lake in the Wicklow Mountains got its nickname beacuse the thick turf covering the hills make the water that seeps through it and flows into the lake as dark as a pint of the famous dark ale. Some episodes of the series Vikings were also shot here.
Bevallom, egészen máig nem hallottam Szent Kevinről. Remeteként apátságot alapított Glendaloughban az V. században és 120 évig élt nagy harmóniában a természettel.
To be honest, up until today I hadn't heard of Saint Kevin. He was a hermit and founded a monastery in Glendalough in the 5th cetnury, where he lived for 120 years in beautiful harmony with nature.
Glendalough környékén két szép kis tó is található a hegyek között. Ez a Felső-tó.
There are two pretty mountain lakes near Glendalough. This is Upper Lake.
Ez pedig az Alsó-tó.
And this is Lower Lake.
Avocában, egy kis hegyi faluban egy csodaszép, ma is működő szövőműhelyre bukkantam, amiről kiderült, hogy a legrégibb egész Írországban.
In the small mountain village of Avoca I found a weaving mill still in operation. It turned out to be the oldest one in the whole of Ireland.
