Edinburgh

Day 2

Individual-research day meant a visit in the current capital of Scotland. I saw the Scott Monument, the castle, and the Scottish Parliament; I walked along Princes (not princess) Street and High Street watching street performers as it is the Edinburgh Festival. I also visited the HQ of Rockstar North, a video game developer company whom we can thank GTA for example. Unfortunately due to the weather, I didn't climb up to Arthur's Seat in Holyrood Park.

Why -- you might be wondering if you knew -- did I spend a substantial amount of time in a graveyard? Although it appears false, JK Rowling when drafting Harry Potter regularly had coffee in the Elephant House and then took a walk in the nearby Greyfriars Kirkyard, where she collected names from the tombstones for her fictional characters. I definitely found McGonagall.

Az egyéni felfedezőnapomon ellátogattam a jelenlegi skót fővárosba. Láttam a Scott Emlékművet, a várat, és a Skót Parlament épületét, sétáltam a Princes (nem princess) és a Fő urcán, miközben az utcai előadókat néztem az Edinburgh Fesztivál okán. Továbbá, eljutottam a Rockstar North főhadiszállásához; ez cég videójátékokat fejleszt, pl. a GTA-t köszönhetjük nekik. Sajnos az időjárás miatt nem másztam fel Artúr Székéig a Holyrood Parkban.

Vajon miért -- tűnődnél el rajta, ha tudnád -- töltöttem el aránylag hosszú időt egy temetőben? Bár valószínűleg nem igaz, amikor JK Rowling a Harry Potteren dolgozott, rendszeresen kávézott az Elephant House-ban, majd tett sétákat a közeli Greyfriars templomkertben, ahol a sírkövekről gyűjtött neveket a regényeiben szereplő karaktereknek. McGalagonyt mindenesetre megtaláltam.
